    One week of wet and wild weather in Monroe From 2:55 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 28, to 9:40 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 3, members of the Monroe Fire District answered more than 200 calls for help and assistance. In a typical week, there might be dozen calls or less. But the affects - and then after affects - from Tropical Storm Irene and then later in the week from Lee kept the firefighters moving from one incident to the next. Here’s a look at those numbers: 210 Number of emergency calls the Monroe Fire District received from Aug. 28 to Sept. 3. 149 The number of calls, beginning with one reporting flooding conditions on Mid Oak Drive at 2:55 a.m. and ending at 8:03 p.m. with a report of wires down on Acres Road, registered in one day, Sunday, Aug. 28. 141 Total number of calls for flooding conditions. This broad definition covers high water conditions that enter a home or business and create hazardous conditions. The fire department would assess the situation and mitigate any hazardous conditions (gas and or electric affected by the high water). It also included pumping out numerous basements. 17 Number of rescues. These included water rescues on Dorothy Drive, Reilly Road, James Road, Route 17M, Marc Terrace and Rye Hill Road as well as assisting the Goshen, Washingtonville and Tuxedo fire departments with water rescues of people involved in motor vehicle accidents. Firefighters also helped people stranded in their vehicles on Gilbert Street, Dell Roy, Larkin Drive and McElroy Road and in an elevator in a building on Route 17M. 13 Calls reporting wires and utility poles down, utility poles and wires on fire and trees down on houses and buildings. 8 Calls requiring evacuations. These included Dorothy Drive (twice), Marc Terrace (twice), James Road, Silver Maples Drive, Residents Road and Friedman Homes. 1 Report of an explosion on River Road at 10:11 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 28. 1 Report of a building collapse on Summit Avenue at 4:18 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 28.
