My name is Thomas J. Burke and currently I serve as Councilman and Deputy Supervisor for the Town of Woodbury. I am honored to announce my candidacy for the position of Woodbury Town Supervisor this November.
As a 52-year resident of the Woodbury community, I am proud to call this town my home - so much so that I have chosen to raise my four children (Stephanie, Michelle, Paul andDanielle) in this very town.
I have dedicated years of my time to become more connected with my neighbors and contribute to Woodbury.
My community involvement started in 1990 when I began coaching youth sports for the Monroe-Woodbury Youth and St. Patrick’s CYO.
In 2015 I transitioned to become a certified, high school sports official in basketball, lacrosse and soccer. I help foster youth development through coaching sports and through the Brothers-In-Deed program.
In 2019 I was elected to Woodbury Town Council and in 20211 was appointed to the position of Deputy Town Supervisor. During my term, I have spent time working to grow the Woodbury community and have been a huge proponent of giving Woodbury residents a voice in their government.
As an integral part in managing the budget process for 2020 and 2021 during the COVID crisis, we were able to save money through sensible solutions. One example was taking advantage of existing buildings and utilizing them for Town Hall and the Court.
We also were successful in obtaining a grant for the Highland Mills Library/Senior Center which will install automated entrance so we will now be incompliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. standards.
As a group, the Board was able to safeguard all Monroe-Woodbury school children through a collaboration with MWCSD on the School Resource Officers contract for the past two years.
We also involved in the residents with the development of the John P. Burke Memorial Pool and worked with the Village Leaders to ensure soil transfer for this project
My vast work and volunteer experiences have also shown me how to adjust to the ever-changing times in our society, but my deep roots in Woodbury have kept me focused to ensure the high quality of life which we, as a community, have developed.
I feel that I carry a wealth of knowledge and experience that will assist me in serving the residents of our fine community and in serving my own neighbors, whom I have developed a close bond with over many years.
Regardless of what new obstacle appears in our way, my roots will always remain here alongside you, the Woodbury residents. As a community, we have overcome much over the past two years, and I will continue to do my duty to maintain this high quality of life that we have all worked so hard for, as well as do all that I can to help us grow through these uncertain times, as your next Town Supervisor.
