Monroe. The MWLL 9-11 All-Star team continue its march to the State Championships

The MWLL 9-11 All-Star team continued their march to the State Championships with another strong performance in the section tournament.

The team opened the section tournament with an impressive 4-0 win over New City with a well-rounded performance with great defense, pitching and timely hitting.

In game two of the section tournament, the team faced Courtland American. Once again, the team got strong pitching and big hitting winning 12-2.

The MWLL 9-11 All-Star team faced New City again in the section championship. New City came out strong and led 3-1 after two innings.

In the third, the MWLL players found their footing as Connor Mchale led off with a double, Jake Bond followed with a single and an error by New City plated three runs to put MWLL up 4-3.

A single by Joey Bauer was followed by a momentum-changing home run over the left center field fence by “Big” Mike Zymberi which put MWLL up 6-3.

Drew Lugo, Kyle Lascano, Aaron Drucker, Brain Sorce and Brandon Schwarz contributed with solid defense to help MWLL maintain the lead.

Evan Mejia contributed to the win with a walk and RBI single.

On the mound, Mikey Monda went three innings picking up the win with Cole Engel going two innings not allowing a base runner and securing the 14-3 for MWLL.

That win moved MWLL into the NY State Championship. The team will head to Horseheads on Friday. July 23, compete against the other seven section champions from all across the state.
