Four M-W seniors honored at college commitment ceremony

CENTRAL VALLEY — Four Monroe-Woodbury High School Varsity athletes signed National Letters of Intent during a recent ceremony at the school with friends, family and members of the Monroe-Woodbury administration and staff in attendance.
The following students signed a National Letter of Intent:
Kaitlyn Hogan, Manhattan College, the Bronx.
Andrew Jemison, St. Thomas Aquinas College, Sparkill.
Kayla MacKenzie, Binghamton University – SUNY Binghamton.
Angelica Sanchez, St. Thomas Aquinas College, Sparkill.
Kaitlyn HoganHogan will be attending Manhattan College where she will be playing soccer and where she plans to study psychology.
Hogan served as the M-W Girls Varsity Soccer captain during her senior year. She had been named Rookie of the Year in her freshman year.
Hogan scored the game-winning goal in section finals against Minisink during her sophomore year and has taken two trips to the Final Four in Cortland for state championship play.
As part of the M-W team, she has earned four section titles and was a member of the Varsity 845 First All Star Team.
Hogan thanked her parents, Kelly and Kevin Hogan, her brother Matthew and her M-W High School coaches, William Mpasiakos, Taylor Teal, Leslie Ahlborn, Elaine Schellberg and Samantha Garnet.
Andrew JemisonJemison will be playing baseball at the collegiate level for St. Thomas Aquinas College. He is undecided about his major at this time.
During his high school career, Jemison, a third baseman, earned the Varsity Baseball Silver Slugger Award, JV Varsity Silver Slugger Award and the Sojourner Truth Award for “Outstanding Athlete in Orange County.”
In addition, he was a Varsity Baseball 1st Team All-Section Player and Varsity Baseball 5th Team All-State Player.
Jemison thanked his parents, brothers and sister for all their support and for traveling all over to watch him play baseball.
He also thanked Coach Vero for always going out of his way to help him through the recruiting process and for coaching him the past four years.
Kayla MacKenzieMacKenzie will be playing soccer for SUNY in Binghamton.
She hasn’t yet decided on a major. During her high school soccer career, MacKenzie was a member of the All-Section Team, All-Star Team, served as team captain, earned the title of team MVP and was selected for the All-Metro and All-State teams.
MacKenzie thanked her family for constantly motivating her and for always being there throughout her career.
She also thanked Coach Mpasiakos and Coach Teal for always pushing her through hard situations and helping her become a stronger person.
She is grateful to her teammates for making her a better player on and off the field. She said she could not have done it without them.
Angelica SanchezSanchez will be attending St. Thomas Aquinas College and will be a member of the soccer team. She plans to study psychology.
During her time at Monroe-Woodbury, she was a member of the Section IX championship team, made it to the Final Four at the state championship and had a memorable regional championship against Arlington.
Sanchez thanked her family for always supporting her and thanked all the coaches she has worked with over the years.
'Awesome role models'“I’m so proud of these student athletes and their amazing achievements,” said M-W Director of Athletics Lori Hock. “We often talk about being a ‘student first,' and these individuals truly represent what it means to take care of business, on and off the field, and achieve success as a result of that hard work. What awesome role models! I wish them well and know they will do great things at the college level."
