Crusaders come up aces

On Wednesday night, Oct. 2, the Crusaders hosted the Wizards of Washingtonville in a non-league volleyball match.

The Crusaders entered the game with a record of 8-1 and are in first place in the OCIAA Division 1.

The Wizards stood at 6-4 and are currently in second in Division 2.

The Crusaders came right out and took control of the first set and won by a convincing 25-6 score.

In the second set the Wizards woke up and fought back. In this sea-saw battle the Crusaders pulled away late and took a 25-21 victory.

The Wizards took the lead in the third set but the hard-working Crusaders battled back and put the Wizards away 25-20 to take the match in three sets.

The Crusaders were led by Madalyn Barry eight aces, six digs and five kills; Jordan Ader 15 assists, five kills and three blocks; and Bianca DeGennaro three kills and three blocks.

The victory brings Monroe-Woodbury's record to 9-1 on the season. Their next game will be on Monday when they travel to Warwick to face the Wildcats.
