On Saturday, March 20, the Girls Varsity Soccer Team took on the Wildcats of Warwick Valley in a non-league crossover game on the plateau field at Monroe-Woodbury High School.

The Crusaders entered the game having won their first two games this season and are currently riding a 21-game winning streak that stretches back to last season.

Late in the first half, Julia Tycott gave the Crusaders the lead when she took a loose ball in front of the Wildcat goal and popped the ball over the goalie’s head to put the Crusaders up 1-0.

The Wildcats struck back and tied the game when they scored in the first minute of the second half off a scramble in front of the Crusaders’ net.

After the Wildcat goal, the Crusaders slowly began to take back control of the game as Head Coach Bill Mpasiakos started using some of his tremendous bench strength to push the tempo.

With 26:00 left in the game Emily Dovico led Francesca Donovan with a picture-perfect pass to the outside where she brought it to the net and beat the goalie with a quick shot.

Just a minute later Kayleigh Goodwin hit the speedy Anna Maggi who broke in alone on the goalie and chipped he ball past her to put the Crusaders up 3-1.

The Crusaders then sealed the deal when Grace Wanderling lifted a perfect penalty kick into the box where Goodwin headed it into the upper corner of the Wildcat goal to give the Crusaders a 4-1 victory.

The victory brings their record to 3-0 on the season. Their next opponent is Pine Bush.
