Tuxedo Park School students, staff and faculty hosted local Veterans on Friday, Nov. 8, at a special “Tribute to Veterans” assembly in honor of Veterans Day.

All students, staff and faculty donned red poppies as they welcomed veterans from multiple branches of the military to the campus. The vets were escorted to the Primary School gymnasium by student ambassadors, where they entered to a standing ovation.

Todd Stansbery, Head of School welcomed the visitors and spoke about the importance of Veterans Day stating, “as the son of a Lt. Colonel, Army Chaplain this day has always been escpecially poignant to me.”

Green and Gold Team captains led the school in the Pledge of Allegiance and singing of "America the Beautiful." Freshman class members presented the history of Veterans Day, as well as a reading of the poem "In Flanders Fields." A question and answer period allowed students to learn more about the experience of serving in the military during wartime.

The event concluded with the third grade singing the "Armed Forces Medley," a collection of the official marchpasts of the United States Armed Forces: Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, and Coast Guard.

Veterans and families rose when their service song was sung.
