Sugar Loaf. Citizens Foundation sponsors state Senate debates

    The Citizens Foundation has announced two candidate debates for New York State Senate candidates in the 39th and 42nd districts.

    The first will be held Monday, Oct. 19, at 5:30 between between incumbent Jen Metzger and challenger Michael Martucci.

    The second will be held Thursday, Oct. 22, at 5:30 p.m. between incumbent James Skoufis and challenger Steve Brescia.

    The debates – presented by the Citizens Foundation in cooperation with the Jewish Federation of Orange County, Leadership Orange, NAACP of Newburgh/Highland Falls, Orange County Arts Council, Orange County Chamber of Commerce, Orange County Land Trust, Orange County Partnership and the Women’s Bar Association of Orange and Sullivan Counties – will address issues related to quality of life for residents of Orange County and the Hudson Valley.

    Debates will be 90 minutes long.

    Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the debates will be filmed at the Seligmann Studio at the Citizens Foundation in Sugar Loaf and livestreamed on Facebook and YouTube. There will be no live audience.     “This is an opportunity for Orange County residents to learn firsthand about the values, vision, and priorities each candidate brings to the table,” said Nancy Proyect, president of the Citizens Foundation.

    Candidates will be allowed two minutes for opening and closing statements, 90 seconds to respond to each question, and a 30-second rebuttal period. Dr. Larry Force, Director of The Center on Aging and Policy at Mount Saint Mary College, will moderate.
