Colorful clouds of powder filled the air at Crane Park along the Monroe Ponds on Saturday, Oct. 5, during the South Orange Family YMCA’s fifth annual 5k Color Run and Kids Dash.

Almost 500 people participated in environmental friendly colored powder event, which will benefit the Y’s Strong Kids Campaign. Organizers are still finalizing the event’s financial success.

“This community event truly represents how the Y is here to serve families and how we bring families in the community together with a healthy, fitness focus,” said Y Executive Director Ross Miceli. “The Y is committed to always being an outstanding neighbor to everyone in the greater Monroe area. We are grateful to everyone for their support.”

For this year’s event, many businesses also came out and ran as a team in addition to the many individuals and children who participated.

Since the event catered to families, the Y led activities and games for the kids following the BBQ. Games included sack races, spoon races, tug of war, soccer, dodge ball and more led by Y Program Director Chase Alexander.

The event’s main sponsor was Todd Lyons Paving with additional partial sponsorship by M&T Bank in Monroe.

Additionally, the eight $1,000 sponsors were: The Captain's Table, Core Health Chiropractic, County Waste & Recycling, Dig Safely NY Inc., Edible Arrangements, the Greater Monroe Chamber of Commerce, Orange County Rentals and Outback Steakhouse.
