Assemblyman Colin J. Schmitt (R,C,I-New Windsor) has sent a bipartisan letter to Gov. Andrew Cuomo, urging him to reconsider his decision to close all boat ramps and marinas in New York State during the COVID-19 crisis.

As a co-chair of the state’s Legislative Sportsmen's Caucus, Schmitt requested a more localized approach to closing boat ramps and marinas.

“Fishing allows for proper social distancing and recreational activity,” said Schmitt. Further, he said, “To close all boat ramps and marinas now, especially during the spring striped bass run up the Hudson in my district, will negatively impact the environmental health of this area and the mental health of those that have no other outlet during this crisis."
