The New York State Department of Environment Conservation's Trees for Tribs Grant Program works with local communities that qualify for streamside planting projects.

In the Town of Monroe, the area targeted for this year’s planting was the pond on West Mombasha Road (near the curve by School Road) known as Mombasha Pond.

This area was selected by the DEC staff due to the strong erosion of land along Mombasha Pond.

On Tuesday, Oct. 1, more than a dozen volunteers assisted the town in planting 130 trees in this area.
