Monroe Volunteer Ambulance seeks volunteers

Monroe Volunteer Ambulance is seeking riding and non-riding volunteers to serve the medical needs of the community.

The service will hold informational sessions at the Ambulance Building, located at 100 Ramapo St. in the village, on Thursday, Sept. 9, at 7 p.m., and on Sunday, Sept. 10, at 10 a.m.

No experience is necessary because training will be available.

Bike Safety rodeo on Sept. 4

The Monroe Police Department will present a Bike Safety Rodeo at the Millpond Commuter Parking Lot, Monroe, on Saturday, Sept. 4, from 9 a.m. to noon.

The free event will include bicycle safety, bicycle registration, an obstacle course, snacks and prizes. For more information, visit Monroe PDNY on Facebook.

Labor Day Refuse/Recycle Collection schedule

The Town of Monroe issued the following schedule for refuse and recycle collections, prompted the Labor Day holiday on Monday, Sept. 6:

Monday, Sept. 6: No collection.

Tuesday, Sept. 7: Refuse collection in the Village of Monroe and the Village of Harriman.

Wednesday, Sept. 8: Refuse collection in the Town of Monroe.

Thursday, Sept. 9: Recycle collection in the Town of Monroe, Village of Monroe and Village of Harriman.

Friday, Sept. 10: Refuse collection in the Village of Monroe and the Village of Harriman.

Saturday, Sept. 11: Refuse collection in the Town of Monroe

Skoufis to host free document shred event

State Sen. James Skoufis will host a free community document shred event on Tuesday, Sept. 14, from 3 to 6 p.m. at Chester Village Hall, 47 Main St., Chester.

Secure and responsible document destruction can be an expensive project, but thanks to the generosity of Hudson Valley Credit Union and Legal Shred of the Hudson Valley, Skoufis will once again offer Legal Shred’s services for free, providing local residents with a safe, convenient, and environmentally responsible option for disposing of sensitive personal and legal documents.

Legal Shred’s Mobile Shred Unit truck will be stationed in the rear parking lot at Chester Village Hall; attendees should turn onto Bank Street for easy access.
