Brandon Gibson has earned the Eagle Scout Award and three Eagle Palms - the bronze, gold and silver awards- with 36 merit badges overall.

His scout enthusiasm earned 15 more merit badges beyond the 21 required to become an Eagle Scout. Brandon will be recognized at an Eagle Court of Honor on March 7.

Brandon began scouting in 2008 when he was in first grade and joined Woodbury Cub Scout Pack 148, Boy Scout Troop 149 and then Boy Scout Troop 4.

Leadership

He took on several leadership positions in the troop including historian, bugler, Senior Patrol Leader, Patrol Leader, Assistant Patrol Leader. These helped him learn how to become a good leader and to understand how to negotiate with others.

Brandon is still very active in the troop and he enjoys teaching his knowledge and skills to the younger scouts. Brandon will transition to a Scout Leader as an Eagle Scout during the remainder of his senior year.

Brandon has mentored a number of younger scouts guiding them during scout meetings and camp outs. Brandon has also mentored several scouts in our troop with special needs. This is an area where Brandon excels because he has a huge heart and the patience to spend quality time playing; teaching and laughing with these boys making sure they are accepted and included in all the troop’s activities and events.

Service project

Brandon chose the Woodbury Dog Park for his Eagle Scout Service Project. His project included building four new platforms and four new ramps and refurbishing the existing structures. The project was a learning experience and taught Brandon how to organize and lead a large project from start to end.

Once the project was completed, it was rewarding for Brandon to see the dogs using the new structures. Brandon had unlimited support from his family, friends and local boy scouts. His mother Patty, father Scott, and brother Matthew, also an Eagle Scout of Woodbury Troop 4, all helped with the project.

Brandon graduates from Monroe-Woodbury High School on June 26, earning a Regents Diploma. Brandon was a member of the Monroe-Woodbury jazz band, concert band and the pep band. Music is part of Brandon’s daily life as he had taken piano lessons over the past five years with Dr. David Crone.

Brandon plans to attend Rockland Community College in the fall of 2020.

Good company

Brandon joins a select group of Scouts earning the Eagle Rank. Only about six percent of Scouts achieve this rank yearly. Brandon stands beside other notable Eagle Scouts including, Steven Spielberg, Michael Jordan, and Neil Armstrong. He is 22nd Woodbury Troop 4 Eagle Scout since its inception in 2011.
