Mary J. Spencer of Blooming Grove died on April 15, 2023. She was 91.
The daughter of Patrick J. Smith and Mary Theresa Maguire, she was born Jan. 27, 1932, in Manhattan.
She was predeceased in life by her husband William J. Spencer and her son William Spencer.
Mary was a pediatric nurse for 35 years at Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern. She was also an active member of Sacred Heart Church in Monroe and devoted much of her time to charitable organizations. She enjoyed travelling with family and friends, particularly anywhere with a beach.
Five children survive her: Mary Anne Hornung with her husband Neil of North Andover, Mass., Christopher Spencer with his wife Deborah of Naples, Fla., Sheila Flamm with her husband George of Matawan, N.J., Patrick Spencer with his wife Jodi of Plainview and Matthew Spencer with his wife Cindy of Irvington. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Spencer, Christian, Charles, Michael, Stefanie, Aidan, Abigail, Shannon, Matthew, and Katie.
A Funeral Mass was held on April 20 at Sacred Heart R.C. Church, 26 Still Road, Monroe.
Cremation care provided by Thomas & Brendan Flynn at Oxford Hills Crematory, Chester.
Funeral care by the Flynn Family and staff of Flynn Funeral & Cremation Memorial Centers.
Interment of Mary’s Cremains will take place at Orange County Veterans Cemetery later in the spring.
