Marie F. L’Heureux of Central Valley passed away on Friday, Dec. 11, 2020, at The Valley View Center for Nursing Care and Rehabilitation in Goshen. She was 88 years old.

The daughter of Ethel Bloodgood and Arthur W. Frausen, Marie was born on June 15, 1932, in Cornwall.

Marie was a teacher with the Monroe-Woodbury School District, teaching for 30 years in both Pine Tree and Harriman Elementary Schools between 1955 and 2000. She loved her students and kept in touch with many of them for years.

She was a lifelong Methodist, as a member of the Central Valley Methodist Church, and in her later years, the Mountainville Methodist Church, where she loved working their excellent church suppers.

Marie was a Cub Scout and Girl Scout leader, a fine landscape painter and a tireless volunteer for the Times Herald-Record’s People For People Fund, Meals on Wheels and The Newburgh Ministry. She loved travel, politics, her beloved Hudson River and her dogs and cats. She was devoted to her children and grandchildren.

Marie is survived by her daughter Sarah A. L’Heureux and son-in-law Dr. Richard A. Roper Jr. of Cornwall; and her three grandsons: John L’Heureux, Matthew Rope, and Marco L’Heureux. She was predeceased by her husband John M. L’Heureux, and by her two sons: David L’Heureux, and Peter L’Heureux.

The family wishes to thank Marie’s friends at The Valley View Center for their kindness and care during the five years she was a resident there.

Visitation was held at Smith, Seaman, and Quackenbush, Inc. Funeral Home, 117 Maple Ave., Monroe.

Interment took place at the Cemetery of the Highlands in Highland Mills.
