Margaret L. “Lois” DiGioia of Monroe passed away on Friday, Dec. 11, 2020, at Putnam Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Holmes. She was one day shy of her 91st birthday.

The daughter of Blanche Olde and Edgar Eckleberry, she was born in Norfolk, Virginia, on Dec. 12, 1929.

Lois was a bookkeeper for Chase Manhattan Bank in Monroe. Prior to working there, she was the attendance clerk at Monroe-Woodbury High School and an LPN in the Maternity Ward in the Norfolk, Va., area.

Lois raised her sons Dan and Tim and her nieces Diane and Theresa as a single mom, instilling the traditional values of modesty, compassion and honesty along the way.

She was a HUGE New York Yankees fan and rarely missed watching a game. One of her fondest memories was a surprise visit to the new Yankee Stadium on her 80th birthday.

Although Lois disliked pasta herself, she ALWAYS served a delicious lasagna dinner every Christmas for her family.

Lois cherished her time with her family.

Lois is survived by her sons: Daniel DiGioia and his wife Theresa Mulstay of Clifton, N.J., and Timothy DiGioia and his wife Cindy of Westfield, In. She is also survived by her nieces: Diane Batts and her husband Lee of Norfolk, Va., and Theresa Stuit and her husband Dana of Winchester, Va.; in addition four grandchildren: Ryan, Daniel, Kyle and Ashley; and grand-nieces and grand-nephews Jamie, Kendall, Stephanie, Christopher and Christen.

Lois was predeceased by two brothers: Louis “Dean” Eckleberry and Lindsey Leigh Spencer.

Visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 19, at Smith, Seaman, and Quackenbush, Inc. Funeral Home, 117 Maple Ave., Monroe, with a Funeral Service beginning at 4 p.m.

Cremation will take place at Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope.
