Lili-Elyn “Gittle Leah Esther” Hirsch Coiro of Warwick passed away on Tuesday, Dec 7, 2021, at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Hospital after a long illness with ovarian cancer and therapy-related MDS Leukemia. She was 65 years of age.

Lili-Elyn was born in the Bronx on May 14, 1956. She was the daughter of the Melvin Hirsch and Marilyn (Harglass) Hirsch.

Lili-Elyn, a retired NYPD sergeant, spent her career predominately in the Bronx in the 48th, 49th and 52nd Precincts as well working in the Community Affairs Division and Runaway Unit.

Prior to her career in law enforcement, she was deeply involved within her community alongside her parents in local politics and urban affairs.

After her retirement from the NYPD, Lili-Elyn raised her family with her husband Bob and her only son Mark V. Coiro and their dog Katie.

Lili-Elyn became very passionate in genealogy research in the past decade, reconnecting family and learning more about her family history throughout. She loved spending hours over the phone connecting with family and friends.

She always looked forward to decorating for the holidays, particularly the Autumn and Winter seasons.

Her favorite song to listen to was “Will the Circle Be Unbroken” sung by Leon Russell.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Robert, and son, Mark.

Visitation and funeral services were held Dec. 10 at the Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Ave., Warwick.
