It is with great sadness that the family of Karen G. LeVentis of Monroe announces her sudden passing on Friday, Aug. 4, 2020. She was 74 years old.

Karen was the daughter of John Garbarini, MD and Patricia Elliott Garbarini.

She was born in New Jersey. She spent her childhood in Croton-on-Hudson within a large immediate family with many loving relatives.

She was a registered nurse and teacher, working at Phelps Memorial Hospital, a local pediatrician’s office and Maple Lane Nursery School.

Karen most enjoyed spending time with family and friends and especially cherished her involvement in her grand childrens’ lives. She loved spending time on the coast of southern Maine, theater outings and lunches with her friends, daily walks with her neighbors, tending to her yard, hosting holidays and sharing her homemade baked goods. Karen made herself available to anybody at any time; a true friend.

Karen is survived by her children: James LeVentis of New Boston, N.H., Becky Shuk of Cold Spring; her son-in-law John Shuk of Cold Spring; her siblings: Lynn Willscher of Wolfeboro, N.H.; Jan Garbarini of Nyack; Craig Garbarini and his wife Blanch, of Cortlandt Manor; Doug Garbarini and his wife Suzanne of Croton-on-Hudson; her grandchildren: Caleb, Calvin and Milo Shuk of Cold Spring; Mackey LeVentis of Washington, D.C.; and Izabel Hogan-LeVentis of Windham, N.H.; her nieces and nephews: Alex, Garth, Claire, Gayle, Alison and Elizabeth; and great nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Karen is predeceased by her loving husband, John LeVentis and her daughter Cindy LeVentis.

A graveside service will take place at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 11, at the Cemetery of the Highlands in Highland Mills.

Appreciating Karen’s vigilance and concern for others in regard to Covid-19, we ask that if attending, you wear a face covering and practice social distancing. It will be a standing service.

Remembrances may be sent to her family, care of, Smith, Seaman, and Quackenbush, Inc., 117 Maple Ave., Monroe, NY 10950 (www.ssqfuneralhome.com).
