John Henry Pomares

    On Monday, April 6, 2020, John Henry Pomares of Blooming Grove passed away at St. Anthony Community Hospital in Warwick. He was 74 years old.

    John was born on Oct.29, 1945, in Goshen to Henry and Kathryn (Phelan) Pomares. He graduated from St. John's High School, Goshen, received his bachelor’s degree from Marist College and a Master of Business Administration from Farleigh Dickinson University.

    He is survived by Rose Ann, his loving wife of 51 years; his son William and wife Michele; grandchildren Maria and Anthony; his sister Michelle Figliomeni, and many nieces and nephews.

    His son Michael predeceased him.

    John spent four years in the Navy, serving his country as an aviation electronic specialist during the Vietnam War.

    He later enjoyed a successful career in banking starting with Citizens Bank of Monroe, and through mergers, later as a Vice President at J.P. Morgan Chase, retiring after 34 years in banking.

    He was also was a math and business educator in several venues.

    John and his wife enjoyed spending time with relatives on Long Island and with the "Grands" in Norwich. Among his many interests were bicycling, reading technical journals, coin and stamp collecting and carpentry. He particularly liked using his woodworking skills in restoring historic houses for the Orange County Historical Society, in which he was a long-standing member.

    John was a parishioner in Sacred Heart Parish in Monroe.

    Memorial services will be held at a later date.
