Isabel F. Hewitt of Monroe passed away at her home on July 22, 2021. She was 78 years old.

Born on Oct. 25, 1942, she was the daughter of Arthur and Joyce (Olmstead) Edney.

She married the love of her life, Peter A. Hewitt, on June 27, 1964. They were happily married for 52 years and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in Paris, France.

Isabel was a teacher’s assistant for the Creative Children’s Christian Preschool in Monroe, and later, a teacher’s assistant for the Monroe-Woodbury School District in Central Valley.

Isabel was an active member of Grace Episcopal Church in Monroe, where she held a position on the Vestry for many years. There, she taught Sunday School, and more recently, helped run the church thrift shop. She was appointed a Lay Eucharistic Minister by the Episcopal Diocese of New York, and was made a member of the Society of the Magi in 2003.

Isabel was very involved with the welfare of children, serving many years on the Children’s Advocacy Committee. She was also a former Cub Scout Leader.

Isabel is survived by her children: Caroline M. Hewitt of Central Valley, Suzanne E. Straut of Monroe and Peter J. Hewitt and his wife Tanya of Morrison, COolorado. In addition, she is survived by her sister Elizabeth Nanovic of Maine; and by three grandchildren: Jessica, Amanda, and Teagan. In addition to her parents, Isabel was predeceased by her husband Peter A. Hewitt, her brother Robert Edney and her sister Cynthia Holmes.

Memorial visitation will be held on Friday, Oct. 22, 2021, from 5-8 p.m. at Smith, Seaman, and Quackenbush, Inc. Funeral Home, 117 Maple Ave., Monroe.

A Funeral will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 23, at Grace Episcopal Church, 1 Forest Ave., Monroe.

Cremation took place at Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope.
