Antoinette M. “Nettie” Scherne of Harriman passed away on Thursday, Oct. 14, 2021, at Garnet Health Medical Center in the Town of Wallkill. She was 87 years old.
The daughter of Constantino and Sarah De Prizio Coviello, she was born on Jan. 17, 1934, in Tuxedo.
Nettie was known for the joy and curiosity in which she approached every aspect of life. She delighted in the people around her and she loved her friends and family passionately. She was a close watcher of birds and Dancing With The Stars.
Her positive energy was known to everyone with whom she had a conversation. She always gave more than she took.
Nettie worked as an Administrative Assistant for Monroe-Woodbury School District. She was a proud member of The January Girls and Harriman Engine Ladies Auxiliary and often volunteered at Orange Regional Medical Center.
Survivors include her daughters: Donna Andeskie and her husband Gerald of Martinsville, N.J.; and Laurie Highmiller and her husband Mike of South Charleston, Ohio; her brother Frank Coviello of Tuxedo; her beloved grandchildren: Kegan, Sofia, Lydia, Lane and Piper; and by many nieces and nephews.
Nettie was predeceased by her loving husband Ernest Robert Scherne and her siblings: Ralph Coviello, Michael Coviello, Philomena Forzono, Yolanda Newcomb, Elvira Hruscik, Virginia Sutter and Eleanor Squillini.
Visitation and a chapel service were held Oct. 19 at Smith, Seaman & Quackenbush Funeral Home, 117 Maple Ave., Monroe.
Interment followed at St. Anastasia Cemetery in Harriman.
