The Hudson Valley Jazz Festival opens Aug. 11

Next week will be the 12th season for The Hudson Valley Jazz Festival, a celebration of the American musical art form, jazz. The series is designed to highlight local talent deserving of wider recognition.

For 2021 featured are Valerie Naranjo, the percussionist for Saturday Night Live; Pete Levin, alumni of so many including Miles Davis and Richie Morales who’s worked with Mike Stern, Spyro Gyra, Ray Barretto, Carly Simon and the Brecker Brothers, to name a few.

As in the past, shows will be held in a library, cafe, restaurant, parks, performing arts spaces and for this season The Warwick Historical Society will offer a space for three performances.

Most shows are free and the styles range from vocals to native American influenced jazz to big band , modern, traditional and fusion.

Wednesday, Aug. 11

7 p.m. Tribute to Bill Evans Session, with Richard “Stretch” Bruyn, Neil Alexander, Bryan Kopchak, Robert Kopec and guests. Presented by UpFront Exhibition Center, 32 Jersey Ave., Port Jervis. Minimal entrance fee.

Thursday, Aug. 12

6 p.m. “On The Lawn Concert Series,” 1405 Kings Highway, Sugar Loaf, presents The Hudson Valley Jazz Ensemble, with Lew Scott, Gabriele Tranchina, Bob Magnuson, Steve Rubin and Joe Vincent Tranchina. Free outdoor event

The Rave Tesar Trio, with Sue Williams Bass, Warren Odez Percussion. Presented by CoquitoNY, 31 Forester Ave., Warwick. Rain or shine. No music charge, drink or food minimum.

Friday, Aug. 13

6 p.m. Sugar Loaf Performing Arts Center Summer Concert Series, 1351 Kings Highway, presents Skye Jazz, featuring Mark Sganga, with John Arbo, Joe Vincent Tranchina, Steve Skye and Gabe Valle. Free.

9 p.m. The Hudson Valley Jazz Festival, with support of The Warwick Historical Society, presents The Richie Morales Trio with Bob Franceschini and Sean Conly. Buckbee Center, 2 Colonial Ave., Warwick. Suggested donations.

Saturday, Aug. 14

6 p.m. The City of Middletown Summer Concert Series presents Art Lillard’s Blue Heaven Swing Sextet with Art Lillard, Willam Ash, Ralph Hamperian, Kenny Pexton, Jon Mark McGowan and Noah Bless.

7 p.m. Village of Warwick Concert Series presents the Eric Person Quartet, with Tim Regusis keyboard, Robert Kopec bass and Bob Meyer drums. Stanley Deming Park. Free.
