Souper Bowl Soup and Chili Cookoff contest set for Jan. 18

    Monroe. Got a special recipe for soup or chili? Are you a baker with good cupcake skills?

    If so, you may enter the first annual Souper Bowl Soup and Chili Cookoff contest on Saturday, Jan. 18, at the American Legion Post 488 in Monroe.

    The cookoff will benefit Rumshock Foundation for Veterans. There is a $25 entrance fee and participants are encouraged to bring their finished soup or chili in a crock pot, because there will be no cooking allowed on premises.

    Cash prizes will be awarded and Dana Reed, head of Governmental Affairs for Operation BBQ Relief.org, will judge the entries. Bakers who sell a dozen cupcakes will also win a prize.

    All are welcome to attend the event.

    Admission is $15 for adults; children 12 and under, $10.

    The event will be held at the American Legion Post 488, at 532 Lakes Road in Monroe from 1 to 3 p.m. Submission deadline ins January 10.
