River Valley Artists Guild to present 'Winter Spirits'

See works of art that celebrate the visual beauty of winter, and those cold days when snow fills the air and icicles glisten in the sun.

“This exhibition is a beautiful celebration of creativity by the artists to start off the winter season," says Art About Town curator Susan Miiller.

The show is sponsored by the River Valley Artists Guild and will be on exhibit from Dec. 3 through Feb. 21 at the following locations:

Gio’s Gelato Cafe, 30-32 Front St, Port Jervis, N.Y. -- Artists include: Daniela Cooney, who takes her inspiration from her home in the Hudson Valley, painting in water soluble oils and acrylics; Judith Cramer, who says of her work: “I work in acrylics, pastel and pencil and my style ranges from Impressionism to the Abstract"; and Joan Kehlenbeck, guild president, who shows her pastels and paintings regionally.

Port Jervis Free Library, 138 Pike Street -- Rena Hottinger’s paintings and photography on canvas will be shown. Now living in the Poconos, Hottinger uses multiple mediums for free-style self-expression, including watercolor, acrylic, soft pastel, charcoal, clay, collage and floral design. In accordance with Buddhist philosophy, she says “creating art” is a virtue of wholesomeness, an exploration of truth, and contributes to a meaningful life that benefits all.

Bon Secours Community Hospital, 160 East Main St., Port Jervis -- Featured are Susan Miiller’s winter-themed oils on canvas. She received OCAC’s Community Arts Grant in 2018, Artists Fellowship Awards in 2016 and 2017, and Orange Arts Grants in 2016, 2014 and 2009. Miiller has been teaching at SUNY since 1999.

Deerpark Town Hall, 420 Route 209, Huguenot, N.Y. -- Joan Kehlenbeck’s winter themed works include important local, historic buildings and scenes. In 2016, Joan was awarded the Individual Artist, Orange County Art Award.
