Mount Saint Mary College’s Collaborative for Equity in Literacy Learning (CELL) will offer an online professional development institute for educators from June 29 to July 2, detailing the Picturing Writing literacy approach.

“Creating Writers Through Art” will be offered online from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. The workshop introduces teachers to the Picturing Writing process as participants explore time of day, weather, animal poetry and animal stories units.

    No previous art experience necessary.

To a casual observer, it might look like an art class. But according to technique developer Beth Olshansky, Picturing Writing is a dynamic art-and-literature-based approach to writing designed to meet the literacy needs of all students, particularly those with diverse learning styles.

This unique approach to literacy learning can be used to address English Language Arts Standards in a way that reaches a wide range of learners. It is also easily integrated into the social studies and science curriculum.

The cost is $800, which includes workshop materials, teacher’s manuals, and a poster. Register online at msmc.edu/CellWorkshop. For more information, email cell@msmc.edu.
