MONROE. Town of Monroe Historical Society hosts its annual walking tour of the Village of Monroe on June 8.

The Town of Monroe Historical Society's annual walking tour of the Village of Monroe will be held Saturday, June 8, at 10 a.m. with a rain date on Sunday, June 9, at 1 p.m.

Learn the early history of Monroe as you walk down Lake Street and Stage Road.

Also included will be an escorted tour of McGarrah's Stage Coach Inn.

The tour will begin on the Lake Street bridge between the ponds. Reservations are not required and the tour is free to the public.

Meanwhile, at 11:30 a.m., an historical marker will be unveiled in front of the Presbyterian Manse, (286 Stage Road).

The marker will honor the Monroe Village Historic District, which was listed in 1998 on the National Register of Historic Places.

The unveiling will be held rain or shine.

The marker was provided by a grant from the William G. Pomeroy Foundation.
