Free books of all kinds for all ages are showing up in buckets around town. In the Monroe Free Library (MFL) board’s latest project, colorful plastic bins filled with books are located at several locations around town.

Last week, Mayor Neil Dwyer and Trustee Dorey Houle welcomed an MFL Bucket of Books at Monroe Village Hall. Library trustees Patricia Shanley and Barbara Cullum dropped off the latest addition to the bucket list.

The books are available in the waiting room for anyone to read while waiting, or to pick up and take home.

The bins also have info about the library’s activities and hours.

“This Book Bucket idea is supporting the opportunity to promote literacy in a very clever, yet simple way,” Dwyer said. “It’s important that we partner with Monroe Free Library whenever we can. The collateral value of efforts like this promotes good energy and a positive vibe for the community.”

The library is always looking for creative ways to collaborate with the public, local businesses and organizations, and so far the book bucket idea is spreading good will and awareness at:

• Dr. Hannes’ Monroe Pediatric Associates office;

• The Hair Bar;

• Lake Region Tire;

•The YMCA;

• Dr. Beach's chiropractic office;

• Freeman's Auto and Tire shop; and

• The Monroe Village Hall.

“I love the synergy and the collaboration," said MFL Trustee Casey Auerbach. "It’s great to see the positive impact and various groups working together to improve relations and bring new offerings to the town.”

If your business or organization would like to host a free MFL Book Bucket, call the library at 783-4411, leave your name and number and a trustee will return your call.
