— Monroe-Woodbury Athletic Director Lori Hock announced that Ella DePhillips, a member of the Girls Varsity Indoor Track team coached by William Mpasiakos, is the “Athlete of the Week” for the period ending Feb. 8.

Ella DePhillips, a senior, has had a breakout season in her fourth year of being involved with the Girls Indoor Track program.

"Ella has led the team with her great performances and victories," Mpasiakos wrote in the press release announcing her selection. "She has won key victories at the Pearl River Holiday Meet in December. Ella placed fifth at the Mike Glynn Holiday Relay Carnival and she placed first at the Divisional Championships in January which helped her team win. Additionally, Ella has the leading time on the team in the 600m and 800m as well.

"Her work ethic is second to none," her coach added, "and when she races she always gives it her all and is very inspiring. Recently, at the Division One Championships on January 26th, she achieved a milestone of running under 1:40.00 in the 600m run, a goal that she has been trying to achieve.

"Ella hopes to make it to the state meet in the 600m and no one should bet against her in trying to achieve her goal," Mpasiakos noted. "Ella is also very coachable and is an excellent teammate, too."
