Pine Bush no match for Monroe-Woodbury's wrestlers

CENTRAL VALLEY — The Crusaders hosted the Bushmen of Pine Bush in a OCIAA Division 1-A wrestling match on Friday, Jan. 25.

The match started with the 99 lbs. weight class where Crusader Richard Toledo pinned his opponent to give the team a 6-0 lead.

The Crusaders then began to rack up the points fast as Dylan Winters recorded a pin in 57 seconds, Jack Kohrs then took 2:27, followed by Marco Vespa’s incredible 17-second pin and Ryan Burgos ended the Crusaders streak of pins when he nailed his opponent in 1:32 of their match.

The Crusaders had jumped out to a 30-0 lead before the Bushmen recorded their first victory at 132 lbs.

Crusader Robert Estevez recorded another pin for the team in 2:58 of his match at 138 lbs. before the Bushmen got their only other victory of the contest at 145 lbs.

In the match of the night Crusader Joe McGinty, the top ranked wrestler at 145 lbs., moved up a weight class to face Nick Florin, the #2 ranked wrestler at 152 lbs., and beat him 5-2.

The Crusaders then swept the rest of the matches with Max Wernicki recording a pin in 3:24, Steven Felice taking 1:35 to record his pin, Mike Paravati took 55 seconds to get his and Sam Santander finished off his opponent in 1:17 of their match.

The match ended when David Strauss and Preston Havison won their matches by forfeit and giving the Crusaders an impressive 75-12 victory over the Bushmen.

The Crusaders will host the top-ranked Minisink Valley Warriors on Thursday night as they renew their intense rivalry with the annual “Brawl For the Belt.”
