Carmen 'Margarita' Alganaraz
Margarita Alganaraz of New Windsor, and formerly of Harriman and Nyack, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2019, at Joe Raso Hospice Residence, surrounded by her family. She was 93 years old.
The daughter of Genaro Dolores Narvaez and Margarita (Rosario) Narvaez, Margarita was born on Aug. 7, 1925, in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Margarita was a retired seamstress with Mori Lee Bridal in West Nyack and a former retail clerk for Macy’s in the Nanuet Mall.
She was an active member of the United Methodist Church of Monroe.
Margarita was the eldest of six. She was 12 years old when her mother passed away. Quickly becoming the matriarch of the family, she ruled and dominated, unapologetically with confidence and conviction, demanding respect, which was rightfully deserved. She was strong and independent and always spoke her mind.
The love for her family wore many disguises, but her heart could never be confused as small. Whether she handled you with a gentle touch or one not so soft, you knew her love was clear and unconditional.
She enjoyed cooking for her family on any occasion and always set a table fit for a king. Margarita was an independent force of nature that always did things her way.
She will be truly missed but her strength will live within us all.
Margarita was predeceased by her husband Carlos Alganaraz, her siblings Genaro “JR” Narvaez, Sonia Reyes and Anibal Narvaez.
She is survived by her daughters Rose Velez, Thais Ruis and Monica Alganaraz; her son Adrian Alganaraz and his wife Susan Hagger; 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; her siblings Violeta Caballero and Ada Roccio Rivera; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held Jan. 13 at Quigley-Sullivan Funeral Home, Inc., in Cornwall-On-Hudson.
A Funeral Service was held at the funeral home on Jan. 14.
Interment followed the Service at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in Sleepy Hollow.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Joe Raso Hospice Residence, United Hospice of Rockland, 11 Stokum Lane, New City, NY 10956.
