Chabad offers grand Superhero Purim Party on eb. 28

MONROE — Chabad of Orange County, led by Rabbi Pesach and Chana Burston, invites the community to a grand Superhero Purim Party. The event, geared for characters of all ages, will be held Wednesday, Feb. 28, 5:45 p.m., at the American Legion Hall, 532 Lakes Road, in Monroe.
The hero-themed party will offer a delicious buffet dinner – including hero sandwiches, of course – as well as Hamantashen, the traditional Purim Pastry, masquerade, entertainment, raffles and prizes.
This event is geared for all, regardless of affiliation and background.
The entertainers for the event will be a Live LED Robot Laser Show. This Live Laser Robot duo was featured on America’s Got Talent 2017, will entertain you with their exclusive LED Robot Laser Show.
“When laser light comes to the hands of the artist, it starts to transform, becomes tangible and totally obeys the human,” the organizers said. “Laser beams are following the music beat and immerse the audience into the unique positive atmosphere of drive. This bright and impressive show will simply leave no one indifferent.”
“We all like superheroes,” said Chana Burston, Chabad’s co-director, “and it’s important to emulate them and realize that one not need a cape or special powers to be a hero, but anyone who lends a hand to another can be their superhero.”
The holiday of Purim celebrates the salvation of the Jewish people living in the fourth century from Haman’s plot to annihilate the entire Jewish nation. It is observed by public readings of the Megillah (or Scroll of Esther), sending food to friends (knows as “mishloach manot”), giving gifts of money to the poor and enjoying a festive meal.
A time-honored Purim custom is to dress up and disguise oneself — an allusion to the fact that the miracle of Purim was disguised in natural garments. This is also the significance behind a traditional Purim food, the “hamantash” — a pastry whose filling is hidden within a three-cornered crust.
In addition, on Thursday morning, Purim Day, March 1, at 10 a.m., Chabad is hosting a Megillah reading, refreshments and traditional Hamantashin at Chabad’s Center, 1170 Route 17M, Suite 1 (upper level parking lot), Chester.
It’s a mitzvah (commandment) to hear the Megillah read twice, once on Purim eve and again on Purim day.
Prep for Purim workshopsOn Sunday, Feb. 25, Chabad is offering two Hamantash baking workshops, one for children, the other for adults.
The Kids Hamantash Bake will be held 10 a.m. to noon and is geared for children ages 4-13. Children will learn to make the popular Purim pastry with a variety of sweet fillings, including chocolate, caramel, fruit and more. The event is free but registration is required. Sponsorships are available and appreciated for $36/$54/$180.
The pizza and traditional Hamantash bake for adults will be held 6:30 p.m. Participants will learn to make pizza Hamantashen – a modern twist to a traditional treat – as well as the traditionally sweet filled cookie.
Rabbi Pesach will also talk about the Kabbalah of the cookie: Insights inside the Hamantash. Cost is $18. Sponsorships are also available and appreciated for $100/$180/$360.
Both workshops will be held at the Chabad Center located at 1170 Route 17M, Suite 1 in Chester.
