PEARL RIVER — The Crusaders participated in the Pearl River Holiday Tournament on Dec. 13 and 14, which featured Clarkstown South, Nyack, Pearl River and Monroe-Woodbury high schools.

Vs. Clarkstown South

The Crusaders took on the Vikings of Clarkstown South in the opening round. They jumped out to a 30-13 first-half lead with Toni Neely’s eight points leading the way.

In the second half the Crusaders had to hold off a determined comeback by the Vikings. With the team in foul trouble, Taylor Neely’s five points and Toni Neely hitting five of six free throws kept the Crusaders lead intact as the Crusaders won 47-37.

Vs. Pearl River

The Crusaders then faced the Pirates of Pearl River in the championship game.

In the first half the Crusaders slowly took over the game as the defense held the Pirates to only three points in the second period. At the half, Monroe-Woodbury held a 26-14 lead behind Jamie Waldron’s 10 points.

In the third quarter, the Crusader defense again set the tone, limiting the Pirates to five points as the Crusaders increased their lead to 45-19.

The Pirates cut into the lead in the fourth quarter, but Monroe-Woodbury came away with the 53-33 victory and the 2018 Pearl River Holiday Tournament Title.

Crusaders Melissa Alifano and Taylor Neely were named to the All-Tournament team while Jamie Waldron was awarded Tournament MVP honors for her 30-point, 22-rebound, 11-block and seven-steal performance in the two-game tournament.

The victory brings the team's record to 4-0 on the season.
