Wanted: Volunteers to assist with mobile food pantry distribution efforts
MONROE — The Sacred Heart Parish Community Outreach program, a division of Sacred Heart Church in Monroe, will be taking its mobile food pantry to the SUNY Orange Newburgh Campus Quad to provide food to hungry college students every Wednesday from 1 to 3 p.m. beginning next month.
Parish Outreach Director Betsy Johnston said a recent University of Wisconsin study looked at SUNY schools and food insecurity (lack of food) among college students.
The study identified the Newburgh campus as a locale where students were not getting the necessary nutrition required. The outreach program was asked to assist in helping address this problem.
Outreach program organizers would like to begin the program on Jan. 22, 2019, and need one person to serve as the minibus’ driver and one to assist with food distribution.
Interested individuals should contact Johnston at parishoutreach@sacredheartchurch.org
