Police investigating M-W student death

MONROE — The Monroe-Woodbury school district is mourning the sudden loss of a ninth-grade student.
“It is with great sadness that I inform you of the death of one of our high school students last night,” M-W Superintendent Elsie Rodriguez said in a statement on Wednesday, Nov. 15. “While information is not yet readily available, we want to make you aware in case your child comes home with questions or concerns.”
According to the district’s Community Relations Coordinator Carole Spendley, the student was a ninth-grader and Chester Police are conducting the investigation. She said the family has requested that the district not share the student's name or circumstances related to the student's death.
"In response to the tragedy, the school district is making a support team of psychologists, counselors and pupil personnel workers available to provide support and comfort to students, staff and family members,” Rodriguez said in the statement. The Orange County Crisis team will also be available to offer assistance.
High school students are encouraged to seek support in the House A guidance suite, Rodriguez said. Students in all other Monroe-Woodbury buildings may seek support from their school counselor or other support staff.

“It is always difficult to comprehend the loss of a young life.,” Rodriguez said. “Our heartfelt condolences go out to the student’s family, friends and the entire M-W community.”
