Come learn - and hear - the history of the violin on March 11 at SUNY Orange

MIDDLETOWN — Back by popular demand: History of the Violin. But this time it is History of the Violin 2 with violinists Peter Winograd of the American String Quartet and Catarina Szepes of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra accompanied by chamber musician/orchestra soloist/recitalist, the pianist Jon Klibonoff.
Works by nine composers are featured in this educational,yet entertaining afternoon of classical music starting at 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 11, in the William and Helen Richards Theatre at Orange Hall on the Middletown campus of SUNY Orange.
Beethoven, naturallyThe concert has two sections: Sturm and Drang and The Ecstatic Voice.
Only one composer is found in both sections, none other than Beethoven, whose sonatas are on the program with selected pieces by Mozart, Brahms, Grieg, Franck, Elgar, Ravel, Sarasate and Moszkowski.
Movements from classical through the first quarter of the twentieth century compositions demonstrate the exquisite beauty of the violin and in the hands of virtuosi, husband-wife musicians Winograd and Szepes, concert goers are in for a treat.
A true scholar of the instrument, Peter Winograd will introduce each piece with brief remarks, explaining as the performance progresses “the remarkable development of the repertoire for Violin and Piano.”
After the final note is played, he, Szepes, and Klibonoff, will return to the stage for discussion and Q&A with the audience.

Admission is $15 adults and $10 senior citizens, faculty, staff, and alumni, plus a $2.50 service charge for each online ticket.
Free tickets for all students must be picked up at the box office.
