CENTRAL VALLEY — Students of the Allegro Youth Orchestra have a long tradition of visiting the residents of Sapphire Rehabilitation each month for nearly three years.

Most recently they added a new feature to their performances.

“We spotlight a student and introduce and interview them about some of their hobbies and activities outside of school,” explained Viktor Prizgintas who leads the group. “We have one student who is gadget guru who built his own metronome to help him practice his violin better, another electronic tech who rebuilds computers, and a few who compete in regional events on horses.”

Most recently Allegro featured Emma Sabat who experiments with quilling, which uses thin strips of colored paper that she puts together to form pictures or even 3-D characters.

“My favorite is the hedgehog,” Emma explained as her art work was displayed for the residents to view. “Coming each month to play is certainly rewarding, but coming together as friends and sharing our activities and related stories is so much more interesting.
