Monroe CROP Hunger Walk raises more than $4,300MONROE — The Monroe CROP Hunger Walk on Sunday, Oct. 21, raised more than $4,300, with funds still coming in, according to Fred Schuepfer, the CROP Hunger Walk coordinator.

CROP means “Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty.”

About 80 walkers participated in the annual event that seeks to stop hunger and poverty here in the community and around the world, through self-help initiatives. Twenty-five percent of the funds raised here in Monroe will go to the food pantries of Monroe, Woodbury, Chester and Washingtonville.

The Chester Kiwanis Club won the Golden Sneaker Award for most funds raised online.

Overnight parking rules now in effect in Village of MonroeMONROE — Residents of the Village of Monroe are advised that there is ban on overnight parking ban on all village streets now in effect through Monday, April 1, 2019.

The ban runs from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Offenders will be fined and vehicles may be impounded.

DPW collecting leaves now through Dec. 5MONROE — The Village of Monroe Department of Public Works began the annual leaf pickup this week and will continue until Wednesday, Dec. 5.

Any leaves left out after Dec. 5 will not be picked up. As the end date gets closer, or should DPW choose to extend pickup past this date, an additional notification will be sent out.

Residents are not required to bag their leaves; they can simply rake them to the curb and they will be picked up. However, if you choose to bag your leaves, use recyclable bags and be aware that the bags will be emptied and left on your property.

Only leaves are to be left at the curb and not to include things like grass clippings or tree limbs. Items such as this will clog the machinery and hinder the work of the DPW.

If you have any questions, contact the Highway Department at 845-782-8341.
