BEAR MOUNTAIN STATE PARK — The Monroe-Woodbury Boys and Girls Cross Country teams each took nine of the top ten places to defeat Middletown on Oct. 2 at Bear Mountain State Park in a race that was delayed and shortened by heavy thunderstorms.

The athletes waited restlessly in their busses for 90 minutes while a series of storms passed overhead. Heavy rains washed out a downhill trail and the course was hastily rearranged to avoid the eroded path.

Due to the short amount of remaining daylight the boys and girls races were run simultaneously, with the girls starting five minutes after the boys.

Rachel Hirschkind led the M-W girls and Dan Hynes took first place in the boys race.

Monroe-Woodbury will run its final dual meet at Kingston on Oct. 16.
