CENTRAL VALLEY — The Crusaders took on the Kingston Tigers at home in Central Valley in a Section 9 Class AA match up last Friday night, Sept. 14.

The Crusaders and the Tigers entered the game with 1-1 records, both coming off victories the previous week.

Senior,Steve Campione, the Crusaders; starting quarterback was sidelined for the game with an injury, so his brother Anthony, a sophomore, was called on to make his first varsity start.

The Crusaders responded with one of their most dominant offensive performance’s in recent years. Anthony went 17 for 19 while racking up 240 passing yards and scoring six touchdowns through the air and one on the ground.

The Crusaders took a 20-0 lead in the first quarter on TD passes from Campione to Jack Dembia, Danny Abrahams and Camron Adams.

They stretched their lead to 41-0 by the half when Campione hooked up with Dembia and Alexander Jaoshvili for touchdown passes of 17 and 52 yards, respectively.

Then, with 1;30 left in the half, Campione ran one in from one yard out to end the first half scoring.

The Crusaders defense was dominant as they held the Tigers without a first down in the first half and were driving them backwards most of the time.

Kicker Mikey Boyle started the second half scoring with a 23-yard field goal. He had a big day, scoring seven Point After Touchdowns and having most of his booming kickoffs reach the end zone for touchbacks.

The scoring continued as defensive back Chris Calderone picked off a Tiger pass for a touchdown and then and running back Peter Mastropolo scored from three yards out.

The third period ended with the score of 56-0.

In the fourth quarter, Campione hit Adams with a 30-yard touchdown strike and Brandon Wasley scored on a 10-yard touchdown run. When Boyle kicked the ball through the uprights, the Crusaders 70-0 victory over the Tigers was complete.

The team's victory brings the season record to 2-1 (2-0 Class AA).

The Crusaders will travel to Middletown on Friday at 7 p.m. to take on the Middies.
