Monroe-Woodbury 'Athletes of the Week'
Swimmer Mackenzie Tuttle and tennis player Makaela Hung each recognized for their accomplishments in the pool and on the court
CENTRAL VALLEY — Monroe-Woodbury Athletic Director Lori Hock has named Mackenzie Tuttle and Makaela Hung as the high school's “Athletes of the Week."
Mackenzie TuttleMackenzie Tuttle, a member of the Monroe-Woodbury Girls Varsity Swim Team coached by Justin Wright, was selected for the week ending Sept. 14.
The senior is two-time captain of the team and currently holds two individual school records.
She has qualified for states multiple times in her career.
"She is off to another hot start in the early going, leading her team in victories over Cornwall and again in a tri-meet over NFA and Suffern," her coach said in the press release announcing her selection. "Tuttle is looking to cap off a great M-W career with another trip to states, more team success and maybe add her name to the record board a time or two.
"Congrats to a great swimmer, leader and teammate," Wright added.
Makaela HungMakaela Hung, a member of the Monroe-Woodbury Girls Varsity Tennis Team coached by Chris Vero, was selected for the week ending Sept. 21.
Makaela has been a member of the Girls Varsity Tennis Team since she was an eighth grader in Middle School.
"Makaela has worked very hard this past off-season and earned the #2 singles spot on the team this year," Vero said in the press detailing her selection. "Makaela's hard work has also helped her and her team get off to a 5-1 record for the season.
"Makaela is an excellent teammate that always supports and encourages her teammates as well as pushing them to be better tennis players," her coach added. "In the classroom, Makaela is a straight 'A' student and enrolled in several honors courses.
"Congratulations Makaela," Vero said.
