Village of Monroe ‘Family Fun Night’ is Aug. 11MONROE — The Village of Monroe will hold a “Family Fun Night” on Saturday, Aug. 11 featuring “Forever Ray,” a Ray Charles tribute band, and other family activities.

A “Cornhole” Tournament will take place to raise funds for the village’s Hometown Heroes Banners project.

A cornhole or bean bag toss is a lawn game in which players take turns throwing bags of corn (or bean bags) at a raised platform with a hole in the far end.

Tournament registration begins at 6 p.m., with play beginning at 6:30 p.m.

According to Village Trustee Dorey Houle, the banners will feature community members who have served or currently are serving in the Armed Forces.

“Forever Ray” will perform at 7 p.m.

Food trucks will be on site and the movie “Goonies” will be shown.

M-W School District to hold field use meting, present overview of proposed capital projectCENTRAL VALLEY — The Monroe-Woodbury School District will meet Wednesday, Aug. 15, at 5 p.m., in the Education Center Conference Room, Route 32, Central Valley, to present an overview of the proposed capital project to replace two athletic fields with artificial turf and replace the high school cooling system.

Use of the district’s fields and gymnasiums during the upcoming fall/winter sports season will also be discussed. Any community group or team that wishes to use the district’s gymnasiums or fields should submit an application, application fee and a team roster.

Use of facility application forms are available on the district website ( in the Community section.

The form may be downloaded and completed by hand or it may be completed as an online form using Adobe Reader.

Forms will also be available at the meeting.

VA to host town hall meeting on health care issues on Aug. 21GOSHEN — The VA Hudson Valley Health Care System will hold a Town Hall meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 21, from 11 a.m. to noon at the Orange County Emergency Services Center, 22 Wells Farm Road, Goshen.

The meeting is open to veterans, family members and the public.

It is designed to provide feedback on VA operations.

Medical Center leaders will be on hand to answer questions.

Vendors needed for Women of Woodbury scholarship craft fairHIGHLAND MILLS — Women of Woodbury will hold its annual scholarship craft fair fund raider on Saturday, Nov. 24, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Highland Mills Senior Center on County Route 105.

This well-attended event features a holiday boutique, bake sale, raffles and great gifts for teachers.

Vendors are needed; first come, first serve. It costs $30 per space.
