CENTRAL VALLEY — Monroe-Woodbury will be sending 11 girls and 11 boys to compete in 11 events at the New York State Championship meet in upstate Circero on June 8-9.

The athletes qualified for the states at the qualifying meet held on May 31-June 1 in the following ways:

• The winner of each event qualifies for the state championship.

• One additional qualifier may go to the state meet provided he or she met the state qualifier standard and competed at the qualifier meet. If multiple athletes/teams achieve the state standard, the highest finisher (of those who met the standard) at the state qualifier will progress to the state meet.

• The state standards are the average of sixth place at the State Meet finals from 2013 through 2017.

Each relay team that qualifies is entitled to send six athletes (four primary and two alternates).

The boys high jump qualifying event garnered attention as four boys cleared 6’ 3”, jumping well above their own height. Three cleared 6’ 4” - all equaling their personal best. Two boys made it over 6’ 5”. The contest ended when neither remaining contestant could clear 6’ 6.” M-W Brandon Adams was second based on more missed attempts, but still proceeds to the state meet next week.

Kristin Lubeskie will be the busiest athlete as she will compete in the pole vault, 4X400m Relay and 4X100m Relay.

The girls also established a new M-W school record in the 4X100m relay with their 48.03 effort.
