Woodbury Public Library adult programs for December 2017

    HIGHLAND MILLS — The following is a list of programs and events scheduled during November at the Woodbury Public Library:
    Artist of the monthStop by the Highland Mills Branch and view the Art at the Library Exhibit for December, featuring acrylic paintings by Judith Askinazi. Her work will be on display throughout the month. Her renderings of flowers and outdoor scenes will bring a touch of Spring to the wintertime.
    Winter Songs and Sing-AlongSunday, Dec. 10, 1:30 to 3 p.m. at the Woodbury Senior Center (adjacent to the Highland Mills Branch of the library)
    Enjoy the lilting strains of the harp and raise your voice in song. An instrumental and vocal program featuring Harpist Kathleen Finnegan of seasonal classics open to adults and children. A song-book will be provided with the lyrics for the contemporary favorites to be featured in the sing-along. Sweets and beverages will be available.
    Please remain with us from 3 to 4:30 p.m. to help stuff stockings for distribution to our troops. This event is co-sponsored by WPL and the Woodbury Senior Center.

    Writers’ Club SessionThursday, Dec. 14, 6:30 p.m.
    Share a personally created work of a favorite holiday memory about someone from your past to be read aloud – poem, dialogue, character sketch – you choose the format. The piece should evoke an emotional response from the club, whether it be laughter, melancholy, sympathy or downright joy.
    Healthy Holiday Eating Sunday, Dec. 17, 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the Woodbury Senior Center (adjacent to the Highland Mills Branch of the library)
    Celebrations can be heavy on rich, caloric foods. Learn about alternatives you can prepare that are tasty and healthier for you, too.
    The program will be conducted by Carley Baulick, registered dietitian at ShopRite of Monroe.
    Come enjoy Carley’s demo of finger-foods, canapés, and hors d’oeuvres that fill you up without “filling you out."

    Book Discussion ClubWe’re taking a break for December. The selection for January, “Blue Manuscript” by Sabiha Al Khemir, will be available for check-out at the Highland Mills Branch beginning Dec. 13. The next meeting of the club will be Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2018, at 6:30 p.m.
    OngoingWPL offers more than 500 free continuing education courses and languages through its database system. Access newspapers and magazines; learn a new language; research your genealogy plus scores of other resources. See our library website under Databases.
