CHESTER — On a warm Monday afternoon, May 14, the Crusaders hosted the Warriors of Minisink Valley at the Rock Sports Complex in Chester.

In a ceremony before the game the team honored the nine seniors and their parents for their participation in the Crusader Baseball program.

The Crusaders entered the game with a 10-8 record and had just been swept by the Tigers of Kinston in a three-game set.

In a rare move Head Coach Chris Vero started all nine of his seniors and they paid him back with a 3-0 victory over the Warriors.

The Crusaders scored two runs in the bottom of the second when Nick Rivera and Tyler Metcalf both singled and scored on Garrison Zaro’s two-out single to right.

The Crusaders added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth when Steven Campione singled, then stole second and scored on Tyler Guadagno's single to left.

On the mound the Crusaders used four pitchers to complete the seven-inning three-hit shutout.

Brandon Bernard started and went two innings, striking out two. Then Gabriel Lopez went two, while striking out three. Next Metcalf went two innings while fanning two. And finally Steve Campione worked the seventh and closed the door on the Warriors.

The victory brings the season record to 11-8; the team's next game is scheduled for Thursday, May 17, at Cornwall High School.
