Woodbury Public Library announces February adult events

HIGHLAND MILLS — The following is a list of programs and events for adults at the Woodbury Public Library during February:
“College You Can Afford: How to Plan and Pay for School” (Student Loan/Financial Aid Seminar)
Sunday, Feb. 3, 2 p.m. at the Woodbury Senior Center (adjacent to the Highland Mills branch of the Library)
Financing an education can be a major stress point for many parents and students. Join us in welcoming Certified Financial Education Instructor, Melisa Boutin, and learn strategies to help you chart a path to gaining a degree without draining your bank accounts. Boutin’s presentation will highlight changes in funding you should be aware of that will allow you to make sound decisions about your scholastic future. Light refreshments will be served.

Meet the Artist Evening Reception - Artists of the Month: Smith Clove Elementary
Thursday, Feb. 7, 7 to 8 p.m.
The artwork by kindergarten and first-grade students encompasses four projects, which were inspired by famous artists, multiple cultures and even Mother Nature. The variety of mediums being introduced, experiencing and emulating great techniques and learning how to “think like an artist” are all part of the instruction provided by Rebecca Walker, the art teacher at Smith Clove. You may view the exhibit at the Rushmore Memorial branch of Woodbury Public Library throughout the month of February. (Snow Date: 2/13/2019)
“Winter Evergreen ID” (Lecture/Demo)
Sunday, Feb. 10, 2 p.m. at the Woodbury Senior Center (adjacent to the Highland Mills branch of the Library)
Learn how to distinguish among the vibrant life forms that grace us during the colder months of our year. We are pleased to welcome the Speakers Bureau of Cornell Cooperative Extension Master Gardeners for this first lecture in a series of three that will take place during 2019. Turn your winter day from “gray” to “green,” and join us for this informative presentation.

Book Discussion Club
Thursday, Feb. 14, 6:30 to 8 p.m.
For the month of February, the library will tribute to love and honor an inspirational African American during Black History Month. The selected work is “My Life, My Love, My Legacy” by Coretta Scott King and Dr. Barbara Reynolds.
This story carries additional significance as we prepare for the upcoming celebration of Women’s History Month in March. Request your copy online or in-person using your individual RCLS library card (re-quest delivery to the Highland Mills branch for pick-up).

“Potpourri” Paper Craft Program
Wednesday, Feb. 20, 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Woodbury Senior Center (adjacent to the Highland Mills branch of the Library)
Let your imagination run wild using assorted materials to design a one-of-a-kind paper craft item. All materials will be provided.
Limit 12 adult patrons - waiting list signup will be available.

African Drumming with Baba Kazi Oliver – Family Music Program
Sunday, Feb. 24, 2 to 3 p.m. at the Woodbury Senior Center (adjacent to the Highland Mills branch of the Library)
Join Baba Kazi Oliver in an interactive drum workshop in celebration of Black History Month. Families welcome. Refreshments will be available.
