WASHINGTONVILLE — The Monroe-Woodbury Varsity Baseball Team traveled to Washingtonville on Saturday afternoon, April 14, to take on the Wizards.

The Crusaders entered the game having beaten the Highland High School Huskies by a score of 12-2 on Friday.

The Wizards scored a run in the bottom of the first on two hits.

The Crusaders went ahead in the top of the fourth on back-to-back RBI singles by Sean Lynch and Richard Monda.

The Wizards answered and tied the score in the bottom of the fourth with a walk, error and a single.

But the Crusaders responded in the most unusual play of the day: Andrew Jemison scored on a wind-aided infield fly that got blown all the way back to the catcher who dropped the ball just inside the baseline as Jemison crossed the plate.

The Crusaders put the Wizards away in the top of the seventh when they added four runs on four hits.

The key hits in the rally were provided by Tyler Guadagno, who had an RBI double; Lynch, who provided an RBI single; and Steven Campione, who contributed a two-RBI single.

The Wizards scored a run in the bottom of the seventh. But Daveas Espinal, who came on in relief, struck out the last Wizard batter with two men on base to end the game.

Dylan Beers picked up the win for the Crusaders, going six innings and striking out six.

The 7-3 victory brings the team's record to 4-0 on the season. Their next game was scheduled for Monday at home against Middletown.
