Monroe Clean Sweep set for April 21

MONROE — The Greater Monroe Chamber of Commerce, in a cooperative effort with the Town of Monroe, the Village of Harriman and the Village of Monroe, is sponsoring Monroe Clean Sweep for 2018.
This event, initiated more than 20 years ago, will begin at St. Anastasia’s parking lot on Route 17M at 8 a.m. on Saturday, April 21.
The focus of Monroe Clean Sweep is encourage residents and those traveling through the communities to help keep roadways clean by not littering.
Monroe Clean Sweep focuses on a five-mile stretch of Route 17M beginning in Harriman and ending in Monroe just west of Crane Park – the intersection of Routes 17M and 208.
Residents who cannot participate are invited to spruce up their own communities whenever they wish.
As part of Clean Sweep there will be a paper shredding operation at St. Anastasia’s in the morning and the Town of Monroe will have electronic recycling (see related story on this page.)
Elementary School Poster Program
Many of the Monroe elementary schools (both public and private) have been invited to have their students create posters for Earth Day or Monroe Clean Sweep.
Posters will be collected and displayed in business and store windows in Monroe and Harriman the week prior to the event. All posters and artwork will be returned to their creators after the event.
