CENTRAL VALLEY — Spring is upon us and that means high school baseball.
The Monroe-Woodbury Varsity Baseball team is poised to start the 2017 season in only a couple of weeks. Leading the Crusaders this year will be senior captains Johnny Bauer, Drew Guerra and Nick Weyant.
Chris Vero, now in his fourth year as head varsity coach, said he is happy with the mind set of his team going into the start of the season.
“We have 17 young men who play the game of baseball the right way," Vero said. "They hustle, they are coachable, they have a selfless approach and they also have a lot of fun playing ball.
"We have 10 returning players from the 2016 team and a great group of new additions to the team," the coach added. "The coaching staff and myself believe that if the team focuses on the controllable and we take care of the fundamentals out on the field we will have a good opportunities for success this season."
The regular season opener is scheduled for Monday, April 3, at Valley Central High School.
The Crusaders finished last season 19-3 on the season and ranked tenth in NYS Class AA.
