After two snow events this past weekend, snow starved enthusiasts are, well, a little less starved.
March, which typically comes in like a lion, didn’t disappoint, with six to eight inches of snow covering the ground as a result of the Sunday night snowfall, according to the hyperlocal First Due Weather from the Compound, the Facebook site with now more than 9,700 regional followers.
“With all the accumulation numbers that were supplied and shared it appears the FDW forecast (was) verified everywhere across Orange County and even across the region with our region wide accumulation maps,” the site wrote. “What a relief. Thanks for being faithful followers.”
FDW's February recap reminded followers that 4.34 inches of rain fell in February, bringing the current annual amount to 8.94 inches in only two months.
There were four snow events with accumulation during February: Seven inches of total snow and sleet accumulation for February with 0.61 inches of ice accretion from freezing rain.
For the current winter season: 32.5 inches of snow with five inches of that as sleet and once inch of ice accretion coming from freezing rain.
There have been 17 events, 12 with accumulation.
Current winter season snow events: three in November; four in December; six in January; and four this past month.
Last year at this time, the greater Monroe area received 34.75 inches of snow recorded with 10 events.
“(It’s) not much of a difference at this point compared to last year with snowfall accumulation,” the site said. “Our annual average snowfall is 48 inches. Let’s go for it.”
But wait. Remember last March when the greater Monroe area was slammed with snow?
    Could it happen again?
The current, extended forecast is teasing for some snow, ice and rain this weekend.
As FDW consistently reminds followers: “Keep watching.”
