Sophie Piekara of Monroe passed away Saturday, Dec. 2, 2017, at Sapphire at Goshen in the Village of Goshen. She was 87 years old.
The daughter of Stephen and Mary Matuszewski Pieczontka, she was born Dec. 16, 1929, in Paterson, N.J.
Sophie was the widow of Paul J. Piekara, her beloved husband of 66 years who passed away last month.
She was a retired administrative assistant with Monroe-Woodbury School District in Central Valley, a member of New York State United Teacher’s Union (NYSUT) and a member of Sacred Heart Church of Monroe.
Survivors include her son Thomas P. Piekara and his wife Teresa of Westport, Conn., her two grandchildren: Charlotte and Jonas; and her three nieces: Virginia Pieczontka Dickson and Paula Pieczontka Templeton and Felicia Serden.
Sophie was predeceased by her brother Joseph Pieczontka and sister Anne Labanowski.
Visitation was held Dec. 7 at Smith, Seaman & Quackenbush, Inc. Funeral Home in Monroe.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 8, at Sacred Heart Church, 26 Still Road, Monroe. I
Interment will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Pine Island.
